Thirst For Life

I've decided to go for the Harmony category, as it gives me a chance to paint as many of these amazing animals as possible!:)

The concept here is showing animals and humans gathering and drinking water in a common area, having a good ol' time.

Thirst For Life 3_Linework

Now came the daunting task of making the previous sketch more coherent, and I thought line would be the best way. But the more I cleaned the image up, the more empty it seemed...so I just had to add more animals! As well, I added a world map to their watering hole, as that was fitting for the image...in a sense, they are all literally 'Sharing One Planet!':)

Now that I had the line work done, I added a basic color wash over the image, keeping it very low saturation so that I could build from this point.

Thirst For Life 5

Now that I had my basic color scheme, it was time to add lighting. I knew I wanted this image to be somewhat of a fantasy piece, and now I had a chance to really jump into that...with many light sources! Which also equals more problems:) Because I had to very strong competing lights in the sky( essentially the sun AND moon out at the same time!)

From this point on, it was all about detail...and lot's and lot's of it! So I used textures where I could( such as the leopards spots, grass,space images,) and many custom brushes and shapes.
