First Sketch
Hi folks, here's my first pencil sketch of the Hawksbill Turtle portraiture. The core idea is: the hawksbill turtle depends on the coral reef to survive, as a habitat and a source of food. So if the coral reef is threatened, so will the hawksbill turtle itself.

I am trying out different composition and angle to determine which will convey the story better. So there'll be another (or two) sketch to come.

Thanks for your visit.

New Sketch
Greetings, here's my new sketch depicting a slightly different idea than the first. Here, I want to describe the dangers of abandoned fishing lines in the ocean that has trapped one too many turtles.

Still deciding which idea to go for.

Hi Annie and Sinad, thank you very kindly for your comments. I am now working on one more, maybe last, concept sketch before committing to one of them for painting.

Third Sketch
Here's the third pencil sketch. This is intended for the Mother's Love category, but I am not sure if it qualifies. Probably not.

In this concept, The Mother Turtle is sad as she watches the 'Evil Hands' spiriting away her unborn babies in the act of illegal egg poaching.

Fourth Sketch
Here's a fourth (and final?) exploratory sketch. Trying out the Prey and Predator theme. The focus here is still on the hawksbill turtle albeit the baby version as seagulls are not listed among the 100 focused species.

Going for an dynamic angle here.

Now I have to choose among the 4 concept ideas that I have done for painting the final piece. Any favorite, fellow participants and observers?

Thanks for your visit!

New variation on the second concept
I know there's only less than 3 weeks to go. But here's the final concept sketch. I am going to make my final decision on which sketch take to the painting stage.

Talking about this concept idea: The abandoned fishing line is like a spider-web to those hawksbill turtles. Once trapped they will never be able to escape until help comes. Here the turtle is feebly stretching out its flipper to you, in hope for salvation.

Painting First Stage
My apologies for the lack of updates for quite a while. My day job has been keeping me very busy lately and I have to attend to a very sick family member. Now the deadline is nearing, so I am trying my best to finish one piece so that all the effort will not go to waste.

Here's the beginning of my painting stage. I'm keeping it nice and loose, playing around with colors.
