Escapism

I've finally settled on an idea. It actually came while I was having trouble sleeping. Egrets have always been a favorite of mine. I enjoy placing them in my works in subtle manners, or as the main subjects themselves. There is something fluid in their anatomy, but fleeting in their stories. Its heartbreaking to hear of their plight. So, I want to create an alternative, an escape for them in harmony with human counterparts. If their future is unachievable in more tangible ways, at least I can provide one through my own way. Writing that makes me sad, and happy all at once.

Here is my first sketch from a series of thumbs I felt I liked enough to continue with. I love urban runners. So I wanted to start from there with a fishbowl look.

Escapism - step 02

Looks like we're using a cleaner approach for this submission. Losing the energy from the initial concept is always a concern of mine when doing cleaned lines on top of pencils. I am unsure if I will continue to overlay my original sketch as an enhancement as I go along. We shall see! My idea is to have several tattoos coming to live during their jaunt.

Escapism Final

I lay in colors and combine several more photo-realistic elements so that the characters pop from the illustration more. The image is now finalized.
