Portrait of a Tiger of Bengal (adult male) painted in Photoshop CS3 with a Wacom Intuos 3 A4. I use to work with a lot of layers for the different levels of the scene or (in this case) the portrait. In this piece, the original PSD has only 8 layers. For example, all the head, except eyes, nose and mouth, is in one layer, with the complicated game of spots and colors painted hair by hair (I hate texture brushes; see WIP 2). The whiskers are in an independent layer and I did use the blur tool on it, the same as all the borders of the head. The eyes has six different colors (green, brown, yellow, black, blue and white) because the big cats have a trully complicated iris, but to obtain it correctly is the key for to obtain the real expressive gesture.
I love big cats and I think the tiger is specialy in danger. We should to stop its hunting and to teach the local population to coexist pacefully with those wildlife jewels.
