Main Concept

I am honoured to be invited into a cg contest of this level and magnitude!

I have lived in Africa until the age of 8 and have seen many wild animals in the serengeti national reserve. I have very good memories to that time and always wanted to depict or make a work regarding African wildlife and culture. This contest is precisely what i wanted and is perfect motivation for starting the concept i had in my head for years on end.

Concept idea:

The idea behind the concept is that everybody shares the same space and have to live with eachother! The focus of this piece will be a African waterhole where alot of animals come to drink. A giraffe drinks and eats from tha Acazia tree but instead of th enormal giraffe striping it has a zebra striping and the zebra has giraffe striping and the lion has cheeata striping and this way every animal wears the skin of another and although you percieve the scene as normal it isnt at all normal. In the background there wil be a safari landrover vehicle with monkeys in the car with sunglasses and big camera lenses and on the roof there wil be people sitting and watching the whole bizarr scene! It has a symbolic meaning in line with the contest since the name of the contest is "Share One World" and my catagory is "Harmony".

I know this is one insane project but i am hopefull that i will find the motivation to finish this one in time. With proper support, critics and comments i think i will come a long way.

Here is the first painted concept so you get the general idea! The next step is blocking out the scene in 3D and finding the right composition. I will be working with 3Dsmax 2011 and Vray as renderer.

I hope to show you more soon.

New composition and idea
I changed my composition to a lower perspective because i wasnt satisfied with the last one. It felt like a miniature scene and it wasnt realistic enough.

This new perspective feels better in my opinion and the new idea is to have the animals reflected in the water but in the reflection their true colours wil be showed!

Oh well lets get going again.

With kind regards,

Final composition and begin texturing
I started sculpting the waterhole and also started the texturing process.

I re-read the rules and saw you had to picture the harmony between mankind an animals so i decided to reinstate my idea of humans in my image.

I will have a group of wildlife photographers with big lenses in camouflage clothing(tigerprint/zebra print etc) who sneak in to get a peak at the animals for the best shot of the day!!

hope you like it so far! any comments are welcome

The waterhole
I added some grass to the scene. I still have to add some sky so the reflection of the water wont be so bright.

next thing is to replace the rocks for highres ones.

One step further
Ok here i am one step further. I have added the rocks in high detail and some more gras behind the waterhole.

I am also working on the sky wich is made with terragen 2. Currently i am rendering it and then i have to ad mountains for the background. When that is finished i wil have to look at the water since its a bit reflective.

After that its the tree and then i move to modeling the animals.

hope you like the direction im going with this.

Greets,

Hi there! I've been following your entry since the beginning. It is looking really good! The last step with the rendered sky add a lot of depth. Can´t wait to see how it evolves.

next step
Oright here goes guys(and girls),

i have been busy with work so im glad the deadline is postponed. I have been working on the sky woth terragen 2 (in 10k resolution) so that took some time :)

now i have build the landscape behind the waterhole and set up a little dirt road that winds down into the distance... the gras is still a little too strong at the edge of the road and a bit sparse in the rest of the areas so i have to fixe that part.

Next part is to put in some trees and bushes wich will give it some extra live i think... after that its on to the leopard...

Hop you guys like it and please give some criticism ;)

greets,
